I hope to take the kids to Fanshawe, it has always been a blast
ReplyDeleteCool facts! I've never been to a festival or anything like that for Maple syrup. I'd love to see how it's done for real sometime. That would be cool.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be taking the kids to a Maple Syrup & Pancake Festival on Sunday. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI used to go to the cabane a sucre every year as a child. Now, I'm married to a farmer and we make maple syrup on our farm!
ReplyDeleteI love Maple Syrup! I have been meaning to take the kiddies to a festival for the past couple of years, but due to timing (birthdays and easter) we haven't - maybe this year will be the year!
ReplyDeleteI've never been, I'll have to look the festival up to see what's near our city. I know the kids would have a blast.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend with a sugar bush in Orillia and I took my kids to visit it a few years ago. He collects sap in buckets & pours it into a wood-heated containers by hand. Spent several fun hours watching, testing and waiting to see the outcome. Countered that last year with a trip to the Kinsmen sugar bush in London, where we got to see modern methods all the way back to how natives used to collect sap. The best part is always the pancakes with pure maple syrup at the end! YUM!!
ReplyDeleteHere's an article that talks about the logistics of tapping maple trees http://clctreeservices.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/maple-syrup-season-is-upon-us/ and another one where to go for local maple syrup in Southwestern Ontario http://inyourneighbourhood.wordpress.com/2012/03/08/its-maple-syrup-time-in-your-neighbourhood/. I think I'll be out and about myself before the season is done!
Oooohhh, is it that time of year again already? Need to start talking hubby into a trip out to the sugar bush.
ReplyDeleteI am going on a homeschool trip at the end of the month and we can't wait. Okay truth be told I can not wait.
