5 Quick Ways to Reduce Stress On the Job

Did you know Canada..  As the economy struggles and workplace demands intensify, when employees are interrupted an average of 7 times an hour and distracted more than 2 hours a day, it's no wonder we suffer from overbearing amounts of stress. We need a way to daily, if not hourly, reduce the amount of pressure we face on the job.

1. Identify what you Can Control
stressed
Image via Flickr by Alan Cleaver

When a situation is out of our control, we experience stress. It actually activates a stress hormone, which can eventually wear you down and ruin your confidence, sense of well-being and your ability to concentrate. To remediate this feeling, you need to identify the aspects of the situation you can control. Those are generally your actions and responses. Work to be the master of these forces, and accept that some things you can't control and let them go.

2. Deep Breathing, Meditation and Prayer
Stress places unnecessary strain on our bodies and increases health issues. It will cause our heart rates to increase and blood pressure to rise. If you step out of a particularly stressful meeting, it is an excellent idea to gain control over these physical reactions. Deep breathing helps settle everything down. Inhale slowly for 5 seconds, hold for a beat then exhale through your nose. It's like a mini-yoga class at your desk. Close your eyes and meditate on simple quiet scenes. Silently pray and reach out to God for serenity. Similar ideas can be found at the Ed Young Fellowship.

3. Manage Interruptions
Today's workers are more bothered by interruptions than ever before. They can come in so many ways, phone calls, instant messages, emails, pop-ins, urgent deadlines, text messages. It's difficult to control the distractions, but with an appropriate response and good management, you can. First, decide to either accept the interruption, diagnosis its importance and make plans for it, or simply cut it off. Decide in advance which response you're going to make. Manage as many of them as possible by only answering email at a pre-designed time, set up office hours, and when necessary close the door and take the phone off the hook.

4. Schedule and Take Breaks
Trying to push through a 10 hour day will result in less efficiency because of stress. Take planned breaks following every 90 minutes of intense concentration. Walk, stretch, do a breathing exercise. This brief period of recovery will clear out the stress and rejuvenate our systems.

5. Diet and Sleep
Poor diets stress our systems. Stay away from the junk food and stay on a low-sugar, high-protein diet. Your body can use the right ingredients to better handle stress. Same goes for adequate sleep. The CDC says some 60 million of use don't get enough sleep, and that kills productivity the next day and adds to our stress levels. Try this simply breathing trick to fall asleep quickly: cover your left nostril and breathe through your right for five minutes.

Stress is a killer, and there is so much self-imposed pressure in our lives, compounded and reinforced by the jobs and expectations we put on ourselves. Not taking a moment to relieve all that tension could be fatal.

Bayer 150th Anniversary and Toronto Gala

Did you know Canada..  Last month we were invited to visit the interactive exhibition “Science for a Better Life” brought  to Toronto as part of global Bayer 150th Anniversary celebration  and then join Bayer 150th anniversary Gala where the company honoured outstanding Canadians who had made significant contributions to the Canadian society through science and innovation.

The visuals of the “Science for a Better Life” exhibit introduced the achievements and steps: how the company has improved the quality of life for millions of people around the world with focus on health care, agriculture and innovative materials.  I was walking through these boxes about two meters high with oversized letters where each one referred to a specific Bayer topic, ranging from A as in Aspirin, to E as in energy-efficient mobility, and S as in science.  The most amazing was to see how science and innovation found the practical use in real life helping people globally.

It was also exciting to participate in the Toronto Bayer 150th Celebration Gala, the event exclusive to Canada, where the company was recognizing a group of Canadians for their individual contributions in the areas presented in its anniversary exhibit, and who breathe and live with commitment “Science for a Better Life”.

One of the notable Canadians was Dr. Marla Shapiro, who was also the Gala host.  She was nominated in the category of family planning and women’s health. "I spend much of my time counseling and educating my patients and the public on ways to live healthy and fulfilling lives," says Dr. Marla Shapiro. "Although we may not always stop to think about how innovation and science affect us, it's important to recognize the people behind the research that make it all happen."

Among the 22 recipients was David Suzuki for renewable energies, Roberta Bondar -Canada's first female astronaut, the Honourable Belinda Stronach & Rick Mercer - tackling neglected tropical diseases – life net, Dr. Greg Steinberg - ASPIRIN® – pain relief, Dr. Terence Kavanagh - Cardiovascular health, Dr. Mark Greenberg – Oncology,  Pat and Chuck Potter - eco-friendly construction and other honourees. For more information about honourees please visit http://www.bayer.ca/?q=en/node/1752

While some recipients are very active in the media and others are stars in their specific area of expertise, they are all bringing light, help and relief to our life making it better and thank you Bayer for recognizing that.

Supporting Canadian Businesses this Summer

Did you know Canada..  Our dollar moved down 0.27 of a cent to close on Monday at 95.37 cents US after going as low as 94.75 cents!

The last time the dollar was at par was early February and most economists agree this decline is only the beginning. There are no signs that it will reach parity in the near future with the US dollar either.

This means it's not a good time for cross border shopping, what it is a good time for is keeping your dollars in Canada and supporting your local businesses.

I've watched all the same shows you have about coupons and savings in the states, I've even done my own shopping there.  I won't deny there is many a deal to be found at Khols and other retailers but there are coupons and deals available here in Canada too if you look for them.  You can get Discounts on Vistaprint Products, clearance buys and free shipping on children's clothes, sign up for daily group buying deals and more.

We recently planned a whole mini vacation using group buys and discounts and we're excited to stay in country and enjoy some of the attractions Canada has to offer!

Check your weekly ads, price match, visit local attractions, and support your fellow neighbours before it's too late!

Are you staying local this summer?

Walmart Canada and P&G make shopping easier #PGMom

Did you know Canada..  if you are in Toronto, Walmart Canada and P&G have come up with a really fun way to help you shop!

Walmart Canada and P&G have launched a virtual store with a QR code-based shopping experience for families in urban centres!  Located in 50 bus shelters across Toronto, this virtual store runs from June 3rd to 30th, providing a quick and easy way for Canadian families to purchase P&G products from baby to beauty.

I'm already an avid Walmart.ca shopper, can't beat their free shipping, selection and the fact that I'm not dragging 3 kids around to do it!  It's very simple to search and browse for the products you want, add to cart, complete the checkout process and you'll have your items in your hand in no time!

P&G has challenged me to shop for some P&G must-haves with Walmart Canada online and share the experience!  Since we are just into summer I thought I'd discuss some of my must have products to take camping, something we are really looking forward to.

What does Mom need camping?

Skin protection!  You are going to be outside for days, you need to take care of your skin and one of my favs is Olay Complete SPF 30 Defense Daily UV Moisturizer.
Clean skin!  Nothing worse than going to bed feeling dirty.  I love Olay Daily Facials Wet Cleansing Cloths to clean up after a day outside wearing sun screen, attracting grime, dirt and camp fire smoke.  Olay's Wet Cleansing Cloths are so refreshing!
To smell nice! Just because you are roughing it doesn't mean you have to get sweaty and stinky.  I use Secret Scent Expressions in Va Va Vanilla everyday, my favourite!
Clean clothes!  Camping means camp fire food and that can mean hot dogs, smores, corn on the cob  - and do you know what all those have in common?  Drips!  I always end up with ketchup, butter or something else on my clothes and when you are camping you don't have that many extras with you!  Instead pack a Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover to do a quick clean up on any messes.

What does Dad need camping?

To smell nice! It's not just Mom that should smell pretty, we need Dad smelling good too.  He's been loving all the Old Spice products.
Clean hair!  Well, not just Dad, everyone needs clean hair, especially if you are getting sweaty all day.  It feels great to jump into a quick shower if the park provides one.  We share a bottle of Head and Shoulders 2-in-1 Shampoo for a quick and easy clean.
Clean teeth!  We use electric toothbrushes at home, but for ease and space I usually pack manual toothbrushes for a trip like the Oral-B Indicator Contour Clean Toothbrush Twin-Pack.  And don't forget the toothpaste!  We share a tube of Crest 3D White Vivid Toothpaste.

What do the kids need?

Constant clean ups!  Kids get dirty!!!  Whether you have a baby bum with you or not I still recommend bringing a tub Pampers SoftCare Unscented Wipes with you.  An easy clean up for sticky faces, dirty hands and knees, I even use them to wipe up some spills so we don't attract more bugs.
Clean teeth!  Not only do you need their toothbrushes, but don't forget the toothpaste like Oral B Pro-Health Stages Disney Pixar Cars Toothpaste.

What are some other necessities?

Batteries!  For flashlights, fans, radios and more, batteries are a must when camping and not something you always think about before it's too late.  We know we can always trust Duracell and make sure you know what sizes before you leave!  Some flashlights can be tricky requiring C's or D's!
Dishwashing Liquid!  We bring a small camping stove to boil water, make some pasta, bring some serving utensils and they all need a good clean up.  We love Dawn Mediterranean Lavender Scent Dishwashing Liquid, it cleans up your pots and dishes quickly and easily.

I'll be ordering up these items and more on Walmart.ca and update you on how we pack them and use them while camping this summer!  Remember, if you are in Toronto be sure to check out the QR code-based shopping experience with Walmart Canada and P&G!

Disclosure: I am a P&Gmom. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events and opportunities. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Corporate Catering

Did you know Canada..  planning office events is no easy task.  Whether it's a meeting over lunch, impressing a client or a large scale function, the main ingredient is always what to serve.

I've been to many an office lunch, some are simplified with individual meals, others are pizza or cold plates where you have to serve your self.  I always find these messy as there's a lot of cross contamination, never the right serving utensils available and buttering, condiments, etc.. are a pain.

Looking into corporate catering in Toronto the sky can be the limit in options, but sometimes the more simple the better whether looking to impress or just enjoy a good lunch with co-workers.

There is also the matter of location, availability, possible allergies, clean up and available time.  If you have allergies among your members your best bet is to have pre made, individually wrapped meals.  This means no chance of cross contamination and no worries about reactions!

Corporate catering doesn't just mean lunch in the board room either, there's conferences, staff meetings, "town halls" where members from all locations gather, just to name a few.

Have you ever been a part of planning an office event?  What are some of your go to options for catering?

#bioSnackySprouts with @AVogel_ca

Did you know Canada..  we are on Day 2 of a sprouting challenge!  A.Vogel has challenged us to grow some sprouts over a 10 day period using their classic bioSnacky 3-tier sprouter.

The older boys each picked a seed and Mom got to pick one too.  So we are growing..

Mung Bean - Green soy seed with mild and aromatic taste. Mung bean sprouts contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B12 and C, plenty of vitamin E as well as iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
Fitness Mix - Mix of wheat seeds, mung beans and radish. This unique mix provides a subtle, mildly piquant taste which adds interest to your meals.
Little Radish - Little Radish sprouts have a strong and spicy flavour. They contain vitamins A, B1, B2 and C as well as numerous minerals.

So far the Mung Bean is in the lead, already sprouting on day 2!

The set up was very easy and an enjoyable family project.  You just rinse out the tiers, confirm the red drain is in place, then rinse your seeds (the amount of seeds you add per tray is listed on the seed package), add the seeds to the tray and you are good to go!  You water your seeds right away and it's actually really fun to water them, because you add your water to the top tier and it drains all the way to the bottom leaving just enough water in each tier for your sprouts to grow!  You empty the bottom drainage with the excess water and that's it!

I LOVE how quickly you have action as you can see from our Mung Bean's, this makes it really exciting for the boys and we will be adding out sprouts to sandwiches, salads, stir frys and more in no time!  Being able to grow 3 different sprouts at once in one compact unit gives you enough sprouts for so many different dishes or even combined into one!

Stay tuned next week for an update and follow hashtag #bioSnackySprouts for our daily updates along with others doing the challenge!

5 Ways to Update Your Kitchen on a Budget

Did you know Canada..  Showing off a beautifully transformed kitchen is a fantasy for many homeowners. Unfortunately, kitchen restorations typically require breaking the bank. Adding new cabinetry and counters can quickly empty one's savings. Yet, there are a lot of folks who are tight on cash but still long for that picture perfect space.  With a little creativity and skill, anyone can revive their culinary nook. Here are a few ways you can spruce up your kitchen without spending a fortune.

1. Restore Your Cabinets
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2425/3907799308_70e96bf0f0.jpg
Image via Flickr by Sound Racer

Replacing cabinets is pricey but giving them a facelift is quite reasonable. If you love the look of wood cabinetry then you'll want to use a refinisher to strip the clear topcoat from your cabinets. You'll have to even out the color with a matching stain and then apply a new protective clear coat. Although refinishing is a lengthy process, you'll be ecstatic with the results.

Another cheap option for cabinets is painting them. All it takes is some fine-grit sanding and a few coats of fresh paint. However, some surfaces don't absorb paint very well. Words from the wise: If you have cabinets wrapped in vinyl laminate, you'll only waste your time with paint. Don't forget those finishing touches such as shiny new hardware and fresh drawer liners.

2. Install Mood Lighting
Track and dome lighting fixtures are difficult to install without help from an electrician. Don't let that stop you from adding ambient lighting in your kitchen. With a drill and some screws, you can easily put in sconces, pendants, or small hanging lamps for a decorative touch.

You can also lighten up your kitchen with some lighting panels made for the concealed bottoms of your hanging cabinets. They're easy to put in and brighten up your counter space.

3. Mount Some Small Shelves
If you have tons of free room on your walls then you should install a few shelves. Kitchens look best when there's minimal clutter on the counters. Free up your counters by putting everyday dishes and pretty flower vases on the new ledges. You'll find that you've added both character and storage to your kitchen.

4. Revamp Your Walls and Windows
There's no cheaper way to redesign your kitchen. After repainting the walls and replacing the window treatments it'll take on a whole new look. When choosing paint, aim for lighter colors to make your kitchen appear more open and airy.
While custom-made window treatments can be costly, adding some flair and privacy with shades is rather economical. Consider ordering shades from theshadestore.com for some savvy roman shades that'll complement your kitchen's look.

5. Replace Your Floors
If you think new flooring is too steep for your budget then you haven't been told about the low-priced options.  Vinyl floors are no longer a thing of the past. They're stylish, durable, and easy to clean. Even better, they're easy to install. Laminate flooring can be pretty reasonable too and also takes little knowledge to put in.

With so many decisions, renovating your kitchen can be both stressful and pricey. It's important that you take your time when selecting new additions and monitor your set budget. Remember that the kitchen of your dreams isn't worth depleting your savings.

Hasbro introduces a new way to play YAHTZEE!

Did you know Canada..  Hasbro Canada has introduced a new twist on an old fav.  I remember playing YAHTZEE all the time with my Gramma, and my husband and I used to play it all the time too.

Now there's a new way to play the classic dice-rolling challenge of YAHTZEE with World Series of YAHTZEE, and you’ll shake, score and shout with faster rolling and higher stakes!  You must roll the right combinations fast enough to beat the competition! With each round, decide which dice to keep on your first, second and third rolls, then roll again to match a card. But you’ll have to move fast, because you all roll together, and you have to hit the buzzer to lock in your score when you get a match – and then everyone else has 5 seconds to lock in their own match! Whoever has the high score after 13 rounds is the ultimate winner. Play best of 3 or 5 games, or see who’s the first to wins 10. Once you start rolling, you just can’t stop! Roll it to the limit for the World Series of YAHTZEE win!

I've had a lot of fun introducing YAHTZEE to my boys, they are at the perfect age to sit still long enough to learn the rules, and with this new way to play there's no getting bored waiting for everyone else's turn because we all play at the same time!

Perfect for working on our numbers and discussing things like runs and full houses (it's a life skill, right?).  No writing involved, you just collect the cards you match, so a easy, enjoyable and exciting game for the whole family!

Wouldn't this be perfect for the Canada Day long weekend??  We think so, and that's why we are giving away a copy of World Series of YAHTZEE to one lucky reader!  Enter below for your chance to win!

Can't wait?  Hasbro has a great offer on Checkout51.com for the World series YAHTZEE game!!! I LOVE the Checkout51 app, I use it every week after I shop, I just saved $2 today actually!  The World series YAHTZEE offer will go live on the Checkout51 app at 12:00 AM on Thursday June 20th. It will expire at 11:59 PM on Wednesday June 26th. Members must buy the products in Canada and submit the receipts while the offers are live.  Checkout51 is available on iOS and Android, through iTunes or Google Play - visit Checkout51.com or your app store to get it free!

Being a Dad #SearsBabysRoom

Did you know Canada..  with Father's Day this weekend, we wanted to share a little bit about the Dad behind the blog, my husband and Dad to our three beautiful boys.

Here is my husband with our newest little man..

I love this picture because it shows exactly what kind of Dad he is.  Being happiest with his family, carrying the baby everywhere, sharing special moments and making sure the boys have fantastic experiences right from the get go.

I asked his what his one main tip to other Dads would be - he says to leave work at work and enjoy your family when you are home.  Our boys are growing right before our eyes and we have to remember to appreciate the simple moments because we're already learning that's what you look back on.

As we enjoy our 4 month old we look back on silly things the twins did when they were babies.  These memories are from big events or expensive trips, but moments that happened in our living room, kitchen and backyard.  This is when you need to be present and enjoy!

Let Dad know how much you appreciate him this weekend and remember as a family how important it is to truly be present at home and make family time for family!

This is the perfect time to check out Sears Days! June 13th – 23rd inclusive and Sears Canada locations and online at sears.ca – including brands in The Baby’s Room (perfect!).

Spend $50 on June 13-16 or June 21-23 and get $10 in Sears Bucks to spend on your next purchase (between June 24-27). See in store for more details!

Disclosure: I am part of the Sears The Baby’s Room Ambassador program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

EVAP - Save your phone!!

Did you know Canada..  I know you have a Smartphone, who doesn't?  Have you ever ended up with one in the washing machine, falling in a puddle or pool?  Or even just left it in the car overnight and it got covered in condensation?

We all know about the rice trick although so far I haven't heard about it actually working for anyone yet!  But now, there's EVAP!

7 times more absorbent than rice, EVAP can rescue your phone in just 6 to 24 hours!

Did you know 2 out of 3 people experience water damage to their smartphone?  That makes me nervous!!

I received an EVAP to check out, it looks very simple to use.  If your phone ends up taking a dunk turn it off, remove the battery and SIM card, pat any moisture off and place the phone between the two vaccum-sealed EVAP Tyvek pouches, then into the larger Rescue Pouch.

After it's sealed, this is my fav feature, a humidity indicator will change colour within 6 to 24 hours to signify the rescue opertation is complete!!!  How cool is that??  Much smarter than poking at the rice wondering if it's done it's thing and you can trust the EVAP to actually remove all the water.

Small enough to keep in your purse, laptop bag or overnight bag, you can have it with you anywhere for the most unexpected moments!

Available at Best Buy, Future Shop, Grand and Toy and Amazon.ca, what a great gift idea for a friend or family member who just got a new smart phone, something for a son or daughter to take with them to collage in the fall, or just to have in the pool house this summer for any accidents!

Shaidee

Did you know Canada..  just in time for summer, we've learned about a new protect to protect your little one while in a baby carrier.

If you have used a baby carrier you know that the biggest downfall is that there is no easy way to protect the baby's head, neck and arms from the sun.  Even with a hat the neck is often exposed and it becomes tricky to stay outside for too long.

But now, there's the Shaidee!  Cool and comfortable, it's light weight, one size fits all and compatible with most carriers and slings!

Wind resistant and machine washable, this breathable product does it all!

My little man and I have been using it and we receive a compliment from strangers every time we are out!  There is simply nothing else like Shaidee out there on the market and what a fantastic baby shower gift this summer for an expectant Mom!

Another fantastic Canadian product!

Did you know Canada..  It may not feel like summer outside these days, nevertheless SUBWAY®  Canada prepared for all of us an amazing summer season.  They are offering two new menu options, fresh and healthy by the way, adding avocado and spinach to Subway’s varieties of sandwiches and salad toppings.

As director of national marketing, SUBWAY® Restaurants of Canada, Kathleen Bell said: “Summer is the perfect time to enjoy these fresh and tasty healthier topping options Canadians have been looking for”.

More than 3,000 SUBWAY® locations across Canada welcome customers to enjoy these new toppings along with a new Turkey & Bacon with Avocado specialty sandwich.

Last week we were invited to Subway Event at the restaurant located just across the Harbourfront in Toronto, one of my favorite places to spend summer time.  We had an opportunity to meet an awesome Subway Team including executive chef Chris Martone and SUBWAY® Canada Commit To Fit Ambassador Carl Savard.  It was great to be a sandwich artist even for a while.  We had a good time trying different toppings and created two sandwiches one with chicken another with ham and even named them: “Toronto Beach” and “French Impression”.  Delicious lunch was on a table; my little one just could not wait to try the sandwiches, usually not so easily convinced to eat, this time he was eating like a “pro”.

Healthy summer can be fun especially with SUBWAY® so do not forget to add avocado or spinach, this fresh green gear to your order.

Preparedness and Awareness in Natural Disasters #BepreparedON

Did you know Canada.  Insured losses from natural catastrophes in Canada are now at or near one billion dollars a year, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).

We may feel pretty safe in Canada most of the time, especially those of us that are land locked, but something like a tornado can and do form during every season all across Canada.  In Canada, the risk of being struck by a Tornado is greater if you live in southern Ontario, southern Quebec, Atlantic Canada or the Prairies.

I'm sure all my readers know about August 2011 when an F3 tornado hit Goderich Ontario, severely damaging the downtown and surrounding area.  With one person killed and dozens others injured.  The insurance industry paid claims of more than $110 million to help people put their live back together.  Remember, this was just one moment, one storm, and lives where changed forever.

Be prepared.  What does your family need to know beforehand?  A great idea is to assemble an emergency supply kit.  Have a 72-hour kit ready before disaster strikes.  It should include: water, non-perishable foods, battery-powered radio, flashlight, extra batteries, first aid kit, sturdy shoes for each family member, identification, cash and special needs items such as prescription medications.  That entire big list is only the very basics.  If you are like me with a baby - you need even more fresh water, formula, diapers, wipes, clothes, a way to carry the baby, blankets and more!  Learn more about Toronto preparedness from the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

Also, prepare a household inventory.  This may make your life much easier should an emergency situation arise.  While working on this, think about making an emergency plan for the family.  How will the kids react in a scary situation, will they know where to go and where to meet you?  You don't want them hiding in the closet where you can't find them, with a plan in place everyone can react with level heads.

Do you have emergency plans and kits in place for your family?  Don't wait until it's too late.

KRE-O Star Trek Construction Sets

Did you know Canada..  Hasbro Canada has some AWESOME new KRE-O Star Trek Construction Sets based on the new Star Trek into Darkness movie!

My guys were so excited to receive this 432 piece set!  The  U.S.S. Enterprise ship along with 5 Kreon figures, the ship lights up and shoots missiles, the boys (and Dad) and been having a ton of fun.

It's also been a great gateway into introducing the boys to the world of Star Trek and the older movies.

Easy to put together with easy to understand instructions, well made pieces that fit together perfectly, once assembled it's been able to stand up to a lot of play.  The boys love to put KRE-O sets together, searching for the right pieces, following the directions, and seeing something as exciting as the U.S.S. Enterprise come to life right before their very eyes!

What a fun gift to give for the start of summer, it would be a great project to work on!

How does the rest of the Commonwealth compare when it comes to saving money?

Did you know Canada..  we recently started RESPs for our children and RRSPs for ourselves, and I've been trying to understand more about banking and investments in general.

While on the topic I've also been interested in banking practices of other countries, how is everyone
else in the world managing accounts and investments?

Such as the use of an ISA in the UK  - ISAs (Individual Savings Accounts) are a very popular way to pay less tax on your savings and investments.  Money is contributed from after tax income and not subjected to income tax or capital gains tax within a holding or upon withdrawal. Cash and a broad range of investments can be held and there is no restriction on when or how much money can be withdrawn. Funds can not be used as security for a loan. It is not a pension product but can be a useful complement to a pension for retirement income, particularly when it is desirable to draw down capital at a faster rate than permitted in a pension.

This is similar to Canada's Tax-Free Savings Account.  The Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) is an account that provides tax benefits for saving in Canada. Contributions to a TFSA are not deductible for income tax purposes. Investment income, including capital gains and dividends, earned in a TFSA is not taxed, even when withdrawn.

One mechanism in the design of the TFSA is the carry-over aspect. Any unused space under the $5,000 cap can be carried forward to subsequent years, without any upward limit. The TFSA also allows income splitting to an extent, because a higher-earning spouse can contribute to the TFSA of a lower-earning spouse.

A TFSA differs from a RRSP in that there is a tax deduction for contributions to a RRSP, and withdrawals of contributions and investment income are all taxable. In contrast, there is no tax deduction for contributions to TFSA, and there is no tax on withdrawals of investment income or contributions from the account.

How do you feel about the investment options available in Canada compared to those in other countries?

#AverysActOfKindness THIS Saturday, June 8th

Did you know Canada..  this Saturday, June 8th, 2013 is a fundraiser event to raise funds for the Women & Babies Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Avery was born on January 18th, 2013 at 28 weeks and 2 days premature. When Avery was born she weighed 2 pounds 12oz. She was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. There at Sunnybrook she was cared for by the best doctors and nurses in Canada. Her parents soon learned that Avery had a lung disease. She was diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Disease. Over the next few days she was given the absolute best care by some of the most compassionate health care professionals at Sunnybrook. Sadly after a long fight Avery passed away on January 28. With the NICU`s advanced technology and kind hearted staff her parents were able to spend 11 unforgettable days with Avery.

I was very lucky with my two pregnancies, everything went pretty smoothly.  But to this day I still have nightmares about how quickly something could have happened, especially with my twins.  My carrying twins to 37 weeks was fantastic, but they could have so easily been born very early, too early, like little Avery was.  We must support NICU's so they can support our babies, because you never know when that situation could happen in your family.

Avery's family is holding their first fundraiser event to raise funds for the Women & Babies Program at Sunnybrook. Their goal is to raise $10,000 towards an incubator in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This is a self contained unit that provides controlled heat, humidity and oxygen microenvironment for the baby. This device will help many more babies like Avery in the future.

Starting at 11 am this is a family oriented event with BBQ, music, games for kids, wagon rides, silent auction items and fire truck tour - everyone is welcome.

Family Farm (Stan Coe)
478449 3rd Line, Melancthon
Shelburne, Ontario
L0N 1S6.

Cost $10 Adult, $5 Children and under 5 free!
Ticket includes 1 hamburger or hotdog with a baked potato

At 2:00 there will be a butterfly and balloon release in memory of Avery.

They appreciate any and all support to keep Avery’s memory alive and support the Sunnybrook NICU.  Click this button to donate today.

Disney Movies coming out this summer

Did you know Canada..  Summer is already here, school and classes are almost over and we are all ready to have fun enjoying sun, swimming, picnics, camping, and other outdoor activities.  And after busy days do not forget to stop by your nearest theatre because this summer Walt Disney Studios invites everyone to join fantastic adventures with three movies you are sure do not want to miss.

First one is Monsters University coming out  June 21, 2013 and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D in select theatres:  Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always that way.  From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Second one The Lone Ranger opens in theatres on July 3, a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous confrontation as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The third one is animation picture Planes, from above the world of Cars, with release date fell or takes off, we will see on August 9, an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voiced by Dane Cook), a small-town plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer.  But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights.  So he turns to an experienced naval aviator, who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit.  Dusty’s courage is put to the test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible.

In May we were invited to Walt Disney Studios Canada in Toronto to learn about upcoming movies of 2013 and by the way enrol in Monsters University, so see you in theatres and be ready to have a good time.
